ESGLD Society Goals

It’s a collaborative network of researchers, diagnostic labs, and clinical centers across Europe focusing on lysosomal diseases- a group of rare genetic metabolic disorders and on more general diseases with documented dysfunction of the lysosomal compartment.

The society’s main goals include:

Promoting contact and collaboration between scientific and clinical groups.

Disseminating information, exchanging knowledge and materials.

Organizing biennial workshops in different European countries.

Running graduate courses to train new scientists and clinicians.

Supporting basic and translational research into lysosomal functions and related diseases.

Catalyzing Research Exchange and Collaboration

  • Workshops as incubators of new science:
ESGLD’s biennial workshops are structured around submitted abstracts, meaning the latest often unpublished findings are presented and discussed — fostering early exchange and collaborations between labs across Europe. Many young researchers gain visibility and awards at these meetings, stimulating new lines of investigation.

  • Cross-disciplinary dialogue:
Through these meetings, biochemical, molecular, clinical, and translational researchers share data on lysosome biology, pathophysiology of storage disorders, diagnostics, and emerging therapies. Discussions at these meetings have helped align basic discoveries with clinical needs.
